About Downtown Tacoma
Downtown Tacoma is home to many historic buildings, as the “City of Destiny” thrived during the timber-rich era of the late 1800’s. A typical home in the Downtown area would be a character-filled condo placed above the city’s restaurants, law firms, banks, and shops. Tacoma has a great number of cultural attractions, including the Pantages Theater, Museum of Glass, Union Station, and the Washington State History Museum. In the past few decades, the University of Washington has invested heavily in the Downtown corridor, as they have looked to grow their satellite campus. The UW has reclaimed and renovated many buildings in the area, and its student body add greatly to the energy around the city. Downtown also offers great transportation, as the city operates a free train running from the Stadium area through Downtown to the Tacoma Dome, which is home to multiple park and rides and the Sounder commuter train.
