It’s that time of the year again! Brisk, rainy days are among us in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. After soaking up the sun this summer, you might be drawing a blank when it comes to activities that fill up your free time as the rainy weather brews outside of your home. So, here are a few rainy-day activities that will get you laughing, moving, using some creativity, and fill your home with the delicious smell of baked goods.
#1 – DIY Shuffleboard
What you need?
- Hardwood/laminate flooring
- Painter’s tape
- A Swiffer
- Anything that can be used as pucks (example: jar lids)
What you do?
- First, outline a shuffleboard target on your non-carpeted flooring. If you aren’t sure what the target should look like, or if you need to know the rules of the game, check out this link.
- Then, let the game commence! Use your Swiffer to propel your “pucks” and have fun! Personally, we think this is an entertaining activity to do at home, whether it’s rainy or not!
#2 – Fitness Jenga
What you need?
- Jenga!
- A Sharpie
What you do?
- Write one fitness activity on each block (example: 10 jumping jacks, 5 push ups, or click here for more ideas).
- Play the game like normal Jenga, but when you pull a Jenga block, you must do the activity written. If you’re getting less exercise this time of year, this rainy-day activity is a quick and fun way to break a sweat at home!
# 3 – Paint A Canvas (Even If You Aren’t an Artist)
What you need?
- Canvas
- A few different colors of paint
- Painter’s tape
- Mild or boisterous amounts of creativity
What you do?
- First, stick painter’s tape in vertical, horizontal, and diagonal directions across your canvas to create whatever geometrical design you please.
- Then, paint all the bare spots with your favorite color combos.
- Once completed, let the canvas dry. While you are waiting, feel free to complete one of the other at home rainy-day activities on this list!
- When the canvas is totally dry, remove the tape and admire your masterpiece!
- Finally, don’t forget to post a picture of your creation from this rainy-day activity on your favorite social media account (#TheoryRainyDays) and hang your family’s artwork up around your home.
#4 – Apple Pie Bites (Need We Say More?)
Okay… we’ll give you the recipe, because baking is always a good rainy-day activity to do at home:
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- ⅓ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 1 Granny Smith apple, cored and sliced into 8 (1/2-inch) slices
- 1 (8-ounce) container Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls
Now what?
- First, heat the oven to 375°F and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Set this aside.
- Unwrap the crescent rolls and separate the dough into triangles.
- Then, in a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Next, melt the butter in the microwave and evenly spread it onto each triangle.
- Afterwards, sprinkle each triangle with the cinnamon sugar mixture and the chopped pecans or walnuts.
- Then, wash the apple and cut it into 8 equal slices.
- Place a slice of apple on each triangle of dough (on a wider side) and roll it in a croissant.
- Once all of the croissants are rolled, arrange them on the cookie sheet.
- Finally, spread the remaining butter on each croissant and sprinkle them with additional cinnamon sugar.
- Bake the croissant bites for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Once cooked, remove the cookie sheet from the oven and let them cool for 10 minutes before serving.
- At long last, EAT (which is perhaps the best rainy-day activity to do at home)!
Now that you’ve had some fun, burned a few calories, created a masterpiece, and probably ate the entire can of crescent rolls in one sitting (don’t shoot the messenger), you can get back to your Netflix bingeing, book reading, laundry procrastinating, or dream home browsing. We hope this list inspires your next rainy-day activity at home!
