Kim dreamed of owning a house since she was a little girl, sharing a 1 bed apartment with her mom. She and her husband STRETCHED and bought their first house in 2001. She became a reluctant landlord when they moved from Portland to Port Orchard in 2011. Their family moved again in 2014, this time to Tacoma. Over time, the reluctant landlord learned what a great investment real estate can be! In 2021, they bought their 2nd rental home, and in 2022 they sold the first one and bought two more! Kim quit her day job in 2022, obtained her real estate license and now is “all in” with real estate!
My Name Is: Kim Cook
I Am: Officially a mother of 3! Though our daughter moved in with us when she was 16, we officially adopted her in 2022 – when she was 31 years old!
Born In: Charleston, SC
Languages Spoken: English, limited Spanish (working on it!)
Proudest Moment: Working alongside my son during a medical mission in Zambia.
Biggest Challenge: Our house in Tacoma flooded a year after we moved in. We lost half the house, and it wasn’t covered by insurance. We spent 5 years, paid in cash as we went, and rebuilt it mostly ourselves. With 2 kids still in the house! And I’m still married!
I Love Real Estate Because: Home ownership provides security. My mom finally bought her own home when she was almost 60 years old, and owns it outright now. She doesn’t have to worry about rent. She has a garden. It’s incredible.
My Perfect Day: Adventure days! Doing something challenging and a little risky, like kayaking the Narrows, going on a bike tour, or hiking in the jungle. When you have dinner, are exhausted from the day, but have so many stories to tell.
Favorite Neighborhood: I live near UPS, and love it here! The eclectic homes, walkable streets, easy to walk/ride to restaurants or down to the waterfront.
Biggest Hero/Inspiration: My husband of 25+ years. He has integrity, compassion, and perseverance. He supports me and challenges me to be the best version of myself. Okay enough with the mushy stuff!
Hobbies Outside of Real Estate: Biking, kayaking, hiking, traveling, gardening, cooking
Favorite Sports Team: You! If you are playing a sport and I get to watch, I will be the biggest fan. Otherwise it’s just sportsball to me.
Favorite Season: Summer! Lemme out on my kayak!
